Stay-Silv® 5 Brazing Alloy HARRIS

Stay-Silv® 5 silver brazing filler metal is primarily designed for copper-to-copper brazing applications. It can also be used for joining copper to low zinc brass when suitable brazing flux is applied.

Like many copper-phosphorus brazing alloys, Stay-Silv® 5 flows rapidly when heated quickly to its liquidus temperature, allowing penetration into tight clearance joints. When heating is slower, the alloy’s melting range helps fill wider joint gaps, providing flexibility across different connection conditions.

Stay-Silv® 5 is commonly selected as an economical alternative to higher silver content alloys for copper and brass applications. However, it is not recommended for brazing steel or other ferrous metals because phosphorus in the alloy forms brittle compounds with ferrous base materials.

Corrosion resistance is generally similar to copper base metals, but phosphorus-containing alloys should not be used where joints are exposed to sulfur or sulfur compounds during service.
