Product details
Weiss Pressure Snubber | PSN-B-25 | 1/4″ NPT | Brass Housing
Product Description
The PSN-B-25 is a protective instrument that acts as a dampener between the process fluid and the pressure gauge. The “PSN” identifies this as a Pressure Snubber, the “B” confirms the Brass Housing, and the “25” denotes the 1/4″ NPT connection size.
In the UAE’s mechanical sector, pump systems and valve operations often create “fluid hammer” or rapid pressure spikes. Without protection, these pulsations can cause the gauge needle to vibrate uncontrollably (pointer flutter) and eventually destroy the internal Bourdon tube. The PSN-B-25 uses a porous metal filter or a micro-orifice to restrict the flow of fluid, “smoothing out” the pressure spikes so the gauge displays a steady, readable average pressure.
Key Features
- Pulsation Dampening: Effectively eliminates pointer flutter caused by reciprocating pumps or rapid valve closures, ensuring accurate and steady readings.
- Heavy-Duty Brass Housing: Provides excellent corrosion resistance in water, air, and oil systems, making it ideal for the humid environments of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
- Internal Filtering Element: Equipped with a precision-engineered porous disc that prevents rapid pressure changes from reaching the gauge movement.
- 1/4″ NPT Standard Connection: Features a male-to-female configuration (1/4″ MNPT x 1/4″ FNPT) for easy installation directly between the pipe and the gauge.
- Maintenance Prevention: Significantly extends the life of pressure instruments by reducing mechanical wear and fatigue caused by hydraulic shock.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Why use a snubber instead of just filling the gauge with glycerine?
- A: While glycerine filling dampens the needle’s movement, it does not stop the actual pressure spike from hitting the internal Bourdon tube. A snubber (PSN-B-25) provides a physical barrier that protects the gauge’s internal structure from the shock wave itself.
- Q: Can the snubber get clogged?
- A: In very dirty systems, the internal porous element can eventually clog. However, for standard chilled water, domestic water, and compressed air systems, they are designed for long-term maintenance-free operation.
- Q: Is this suitable for steam?
- A: For steam applications, it is recommended to use a Stainless Steel Snubber (PSN-SS-25) in conjunction with a syphon for maximum heat and corrosion protection.
