Product details
Weiss Pigtail Syphon | SY-14SS316 | 1/4″ NPT | 316 Stainless Steel
Product Description
The SY-14SS316 is a loop-style “pigtail” syphon. Its primary function is to act as a condensation trap. By forming a water seal within the coil, it prevents live, superheated steam from reaching the internal components of a pressure gauge. This prevents thermal damage and eliminates “zero shift” errors caused by heat expansion.
The “SY” stands for Syphon, “14” indicates the 1/4″ NPT connection size, and “SS316” confirms the use of Grade 316 Stainless Steel. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s industrial sector—especially in desalination plants, chemical processing, and coastal boiler rooms—316 SS is the preferred material due to its superior resistance to pitting and chloride-induced corrosion compared to standard 304 SS.
Key Features
- Marine-Grade 316 Stainless Steel: Offers maximum corrosion resistance, making it suitable for aggressive steam, chemicals, and saline environments common in the UAE.
- Effective Thermal Barrier: The pigtail design creates a cooling loop that allows the pressure gauge to operate at ambient temperature even when monitoring high-heat processes.
- High Pressure/Temperature Rating: Designed to withstand the high-stress conditions of industrial boiler headers and steam distribution lines.
- 1/4″ NPT Standard Connection: Fits all standard industrial pressure gauges, making it a universal protective solution.
- Maintenance Prevention: Protects the delicate Bourdon tube and internal soldering of the gauge, reducing replacement costs and downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Why upgrade from 304 SS to 316 SS for a syphon?
- A: 316 Stainless Steel contains Molybdenum, which provides much better resistance to chlorides (salt) and aggressive boiler chemicals. If your plant is near the coast or uses high-strength water treatments, 316 SS is the safer choice.
- Q: Is it necessary to fill the syphon with water before installation?
- A: To protect the gauge from the very first moment the steam is turned on, you should manually fill the coil with water. This creates the “water seal” immediately.
- Q: Can this be used for high-pressure hot water?
- A: While primarily for steam (to create a trap for condensation), it can also be used for hot water to provide a small amount of cooling and vibration dampening before the fluid reaches the gauge.
