Weiss Right Angle Syphon | ASY-14B | 1/4″ NPT | Brass
Product Description
The ASY-14B is a “right angle” or 90-degree syphon, designed specifically for horizontal piping runs where the gauge needs to stand vertically. The “ASY” designation refers to the syphon assembly, the “14” denotes the 1/4″ NPT connection size, and the “B” confirms the material is Brass.
Unlike the traditional pigtail loop, the right-angle syphon is often used when mounting a gauge to the side of a vertical pipe or on top of a horizontal pipe in tight mechanical skids. Its primary function is to trap condensed water within the internal bend. This “water seal” prevents live steam from directly entering the pressure gauge’s internal Bourdon tube. By maintaining the gauge at ambient temperature, the ASY-14B prevents permanent heat damage and ensures accurate pressure readings.
Key Features
- Compact Right-Angle Design: Specifically engineered for installations where a standard pigtail loop is too bulky or where the piping layout requires a 90-degree turn.
- High-Quality Brass Construction: Offers excellent corrosion resistance and superior heat dissipation compared to iron, ensuring the gauge remains cool.
- Effective Thermal Protection: Creates a reliable condensation trap to prevent superheated steam from reaching the instrument’s internal soldering.
- 1/4″ NPT Standard Connection: Features male threads for easy integration into standard industrial piping and female (or male) threads for the gauge mount.
- Non-Rusting Material: Ideal for commercial HVAC and clean steam systems where the rust from iron syphons could clog small sensing orifices.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: When should I use a Right Angle Syphon (ASY-14B) instead of a Pigtail Syphon?
- A: Use the right-angle version when you have limited vertical space or when the gauge is being mounted directly onto a horizontal pipe and you want the gauge to face forward for easy reading.
- Q: Is Brass as strong as Iron for steam?
- A: Brass is perfectly suited for saturated steam in commercial HVAC and low-pressure boiler systems. For very high-pressure industrial steam, stainless steel or iron is typically specified.
- Q: Does it need to be primed?
- A: Like all syphons, it should be filled with water before system startup to ensure the “water seal” is in place immediately.
